On April 29, 2005, the USDA Forest Service convened a meeting of executive level stakeholders from academia, industry, and federal agencies to discuss need, purpose, scope and implementation strategy for the Loblolly Pine Genome Project (LPGP). Scientists in the pine genome community have spent the past two years organizing themselves into a cohesive group and have produced a proposal for the science work to be done. The executive level stakeholders meeting was to discuss policy, communication, and implementation strategy. A facilitated discussion yielded clear ideas on how to organize to move the entire LPGP forward and gain support and funding.
The meeting was hosted by Forest Service Deputy Research Director Ann Bartuska
and was organized by Sam Foster and David Neale.
